Liposuction performed using only local anesthesia is the safest method of liposuction surgery.A review of complications resulting from office-based surgery by various specialties over a 7-year period published in March 2008 revealed that there were 31 deaths over 7 years*.Liposuction and liposuction with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or another cosmetic procedure accounted for the largest percentage of deaths from cosmetic surgery.
On the other hand, there were no liposuction deaths or injuries associated with the use of dilute local anesthesia.Liposuction using local anesthesia, coined tumescent liposuction by its inventor and often referred to as liposculpture, means performing body sculpting without any form of sedation. In addition to being safest, liposculpture using local numbing only also permits the removal of the most fat and the fastest recovery.
At his liposuction practice in Los Angeles, Dr. Osman only performs liposuction using local anesthesia.
