We all want the benefits of liposuction but would be happy to live without the risk or recovery that goes along with an invasive procedure. That leaves us wondering, “Is there non-invasive liposuction?”
It’s a perfectly valid question! If there is a way to effectively remove fat without surgery, then why not?
The key in that sentence is the word “effectively”. It turns out there are non-invasive liposuction alternatives, but they offer limited improvement compared to liposuction. Liposonix results and Thermage results are about the same. Both have been shown to reduce the waistline by about an inch. Zeltiq reduces fat in the treated area by about 20%.
Maybe limited improvement is all you need, but what if you want more? Well, you could combine several non-invasive procedures, but that could be costly and still may not get you the results you desire.
To really get the results of liposuction, you have to do liposuction. However, not all liposuction is the same. Some liposuction techniques are more invasive than others, and the more invasive a technique, the longer the recovery.
The least invasive form of liposuction is liposuction using purely local anesthesia and microcannulas (suction tubes). Avoiding sedation and only using local anesthesia not only reduces risk, but it makes recovery easier. When done properly, there is very little discomfort. Microcannulas minimize recovery by being less traumatic.
So, the answer to the question, “Is there non-invasive liposuction?” is no, but, fortunately, there is minimally invasive liposuction.
