Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Using lasers to treat the skin is one of the best ways to rejuvenate and achieve an overall more youthful, refreshed appearance.  There are lasers to reduce brown spots, eliminated dilated blood vessels, and minimize fine lines.  Lasers also improve complexion and promote new collagen production, many without any downtime.  The lasers most commonly used during treatment are the IPL, Vbeam, and Nd:YAG.   All three may be used in combination to achieve maximum results.  The resurfacing laser may also be used, at times, to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

We routinely use a combination of several different lasers during treatment to get the best results.

The IPL Photofacial forms the backbone of treatment. It is able to treat both red and brown discoloration, but it is particularly good at targeting brown spots like sun spots or liver spots. When aimed at the skin, red and brown colors preferentially absorb the light energy produced by the IPL and convert it to heat energy. This energy causes microscopic injury to the areas of discoloration. Over time, your body repairs this injury and removes the areas of discoloration in the process.

The Vbeam laser is outstanding for treating red discoloration because the characteristics of this laser make it especially well absorbed by anything red. The red could be from rosacea, dilated blood vessels, scars, stretch marks, or lingering acne marks. The VBeam laser is widely considered the standard, most-effective treatment for red discoloration.

The Nd:YAG laser has many uses, but it is especially good for treating small veins on the face. These dilated blood vessels often appear around the nose, and on the chin and cheeks. The Nd:YAG is also great for treating angiomas, which are little red moles that usually appear on the body.

Since the injury from all of these lasers is microscopic, there is no recovery after any of them. Each treatment takes 10 – 20 minutes.

IPL and laser treatments can help all skin types from very pale to very dark. They cannot be performed, however, over makeup and are most effective and safest on non-tanned skin. They cannot be performed if you have a lotion-based or sprayed on tan.
