Restylane Silk is a hyaluronic acid filler. It is unique in that it is smoother and finer than the other members of the Restylane family – which include traditional Restylane, Restylane Lyft, and Defyne/Refyne. Because of its silky consistency, it is a great choice for adding subtle volume to the lips and for filling lip lines and cheek wrinkles.

What is Restylane Silk?
Restylane Silk is made out of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a protein-sugar molecule and is found naturally in our skin where it works to enhance hydration.
When synthesized in a lab, hyaluronic acid is designed to primarily fill lines and add volume. Many products use hyaluronic acid for this purpose. Due to differences in the manufacturing process, each of the hyaluronic acid products has slightly unique properties.
The manufacturing process for Restylane Silk gives it a smooth, silky consistency. It fills without lifting, so it is very good to use in lip lines. See this case study where we used it to fill lip lines. It is also a great choice to subtly plump the lips and perfect for those wanting a natural result but still desiring a little extra fullness. Because it will not plump the lips much, there is no real risk of developing ‘duck lips’.
What is treatment like?
Restylane Silk is injected directly into the treatment area. Usually, the lips are numbed with either a topical anesthetic or a dental block unless the patient requests otherwise. For lip lines and other fine lines, we often use a topical numbing cream.
Treatment only takes a few minutes. Immediately afterward, there may be swelling and bruising. Both resolve over time. You can minimize the risk of bruising by avoiding blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, and fish oil.
Both the appearance of fine lines around the lips and loss of volume in the lip, happen with age. Smoothing lip lines and adding a natural amount of volume to the lips are important parts of rejuvenation.
